Held under the patronage of Bulgaria’s Vice President, Mrs. Iliana Yotova, the festival is a key part of Sozopol’s cultural program and is officially featured in the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture’s annual calendar. This year’s jubilee edition welcomed the Confucius Institute at UVT from 9th to 11th July, which contributed an original performance titled “The Dance of the Elements: From the Mists of Wu Dang to the Sun of Yunnan.”
This mesmerizing production took audiences on a poetic journey through Ancient China’s philosophy, nature, and spirit, blending movement, voice, and storytelling. Performers Bozhidara Lecheva, Kristiana Doneva, and Victoria Todorova, guided by the evocative narration of Pavel Vanev, delivered a profound artistic statement – earning them a diploma and a commemorative plaque from the XX International Youth Arts Festival.
Beyond the stage, the Confucius Institute enriched the festival with daily cultural workshops, including: Chinese paper cutting, Traditional knotting, Calligraphy, Green tea ceremonies with insightful explanations of the tea ceremony.
A standout attraction was the traditional Chinese clothing and accessories exhibit, where visitors immersed themselves in the elegance of Hanfu and other cultural garments. This year also introduced a unique art exhibition by Huang Jun, a Chinese language teacher at the Confucius Institute and PhD candidate at Bulgaria’s National Academy of Arts. His series of paintings portrayed Bulgarian bridal attire from Pleven through an Eastern artistic lens, blending admiration for Bulgarian aesthetics with delicate brushwork.
In recognition of their contributions, the festival organizers awarded honorary diplomas and plaques to all Confucius Institute participants, including the Bulgarian director Assoc. Prof. Iskra Mandova and the Chinese director Prof. Dong Yuanxing, thanking them for their dedication and collaboration. The Confucius Institute at UVT further celebrated young talent by presenting special prizes to competition winners across various categories.
The Muses Festival once again proved to be a bridge between cultures – a space where art transcends borders, and creativity knows no limits.
