On October 9-10, 2020 at the Confucius Institute at the University of Veliko Tarnovo the VII International Scientific Conference on “Diplomatic, Economic and Cultural Relations between China and Central and Eastern European Countries”, was held. It was attended by 27 researchers, professors and PhD students from Bulgaria and China (UVT, SWU, BAS, Sofia University, UNWE, VFU, Peking University, Peking University of Foreign Languages, Chinese University of Geosciences - Wuhan).
The topics of the Conference included economics, geography, diplomatic relations, law, history, intercultural relations, cultural communication, literature, art, education, etc. The participants discussed a number of practical topics and issues. During the opening of the conference, the Vice-Rector of the University of Veliko Tarnovo – Assoc. Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov and the Dean of the Faculty of Modern Languages -–Prof. Tsenka Ivanova, PhD gave speeches, wishing success to the event. Among the important guests were Mrs. Irina Beleva – Consul General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Shanghai (2011–2015), Mr. Georgi Kamarashev – Deputy Mayor of Veliko Tarnovo Municipality and Mr. Neiko Genchev – Municipal Councilor and owner of Faber Publishing House. In her speech during the opening of the conference, Ms. Beleva congratulated the team of the Confucius Institute at UVT for the successes achieved so far and praised the work and professionalism of the directors of the Institute and the Chinese language teachers at UVT.
The event enjoyed great public interest, but in view of the difficult situation in the country and in compliance with the regulations of the Ministry of Health, the Confucius Institute had limited the number of its guests.
