Chinese Classic Film Week will take place at the Odeon Film Archive Cinema in Sofia from May 14 to 20, 2026.
The event is jointly organized by the Chinese Film Archive and the Bulgarian National Film Archive under the auspices of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Bulgaria. Most of the films will be screened for the first time before a Bulgarian audience.
The film week traces the development of Chinese cinema from 1922 to 1992—from early examples of silent film to contemporary interpretations of social and historical themes. The curated selection reveals the richness of visual style, cultural traditions, and deep emotionality characteristic of Chinese cinema.
All films have been restored in 4K by the Chinese Film Archive and will be screened with original Chinese audio (except for some silent films) and Bulgarian subtitles.
