On May 11 the Confucius Institute at University of Veliko Turnovo, Bulgaria held its second Chinese proficiency test (HSK) for 2019. The test covers HSK Level 1 to Level 6, with a total of 43 candidates participating.
Before the examination, the examination rooms in the the Confucius Institute were carefully arranged for the purpose, and the audio equipment was debugged to ensure that there is no problems during the exam.
The largest number of candidates took part in the HSK 2 examination, most of them coming from primary schools. The age of the examinees ranged from the the youngest being 9 years old and the oldest being a mother of a 12-years-old. The most notable thing is that the mother and her 12-year-old son are learning Chinese together and they attended the HSK Level 2 exam in the same room.
In recent years, the Confucius Institute at University of Veliko Turnovo has made great efforts to promote the Chinese language teaching and has taken various measures to stimulate Bulgarian people's enthusiasm for learning Chinese. With the increasing influence of Confucius Institutes in the local area, more and more people are learning Chinese and the Confucius Institute at UVT is also accordingly working on increasing the number of its subordinate teaching points. Since it became a test site for the Chinese proficiency test, efforts to promote HSK have also started yielding results and the number of applicants has increased steadily. In the future, the University of Veliko Turnovo will continue to strengthen the publicity of HSK and improve the facilities for the Chinese proficiency test in order to further improve its job in the promotion of Chinese language and culture in the local region.
