Summary/Abstract: The study covers Chinese cities and areas twinned with Bulgarian cities and areas located in the Northeast (the territory of Varna Region, Dobrich Region, Targovishte Region and Shumen Region) NUTS-2 statistical region. In addition to the brief geographical, historical, cultural, educational and commercial-economic information about the Chinese settlements, the article also presents the specific normative acts which set the beginning of the “twinning” between them. The article also follows the development of their cooperation in various spheres, the achieved results, as well as the unrealized projects laid down in the preliminary plans. The final part analyzes the opportunities, obstacles, challenges and prospects for a further partnership with the local authorities and citizens of the Bulgarian and Chinese sities, settlements and regions under discussion.
